Whats wrong in Knoxville???

I would really like to know what everyones thoughts are about the football vols playing like dogs... my personal opinion is its coaching as much as anything... give a guy a raise every year and dont make his FAT contract insentive loaded, this is what u will get. I also think that the game has evolved so much that the "old school" philosophy doesnt work anymore. What are everyones thoughts?

ditto! it's time for phil to go! If ya can't beat SC and put ole Spurrier in his place better than a 3 point win, then it's time for him to find other employment. Since "tuition" is going up, use that money to pay an ex professional team coach to come in here and revamp UT football, so it can be the POWERHOUSE that most fans expect. Phil's a good ole boy and all, but that close of a game with SC and a loss to Bama isn't gonna cut it on ROCKY TOP!. GET YOUR RESUME' READY MR.FULMER!

Please keep him...Saban will(already does) own him. If not then he deserves everything he gets. Whoever you get he won't beat Saban. There is nobody out there better. God help the volunqueers and the rest of the SEC when Bama actually gets some descent players. Can you say 72-3. Roll Tide!

First of all, alasaban, I can tell you have a masters degree from Good Ole 'Bama. Decent, check it in the dictionary. That's how its spelled. Second, Phillip Fulmer has been lucky. I believe that in the next three saturdays we will drop one, probably Vandy.....and at the end of the bowl season, Phil will be looking at an unemployment check. Although it is partially due to Mr. Chavis and the lack of defensive recruiting, being down on UT seems to be the new attitude in Knoxville. Cheer up donors and fans, only two months, then lets see where the chips fall. Take it to 'em on Saturday Coach Cutcliffe. Keep their offense off of the field and we might come away lucky again. GO VOLS.........!

Who you gonna get that is any better? The old school still works if the players execute. I put just as much blame on them as I do FAT PHIL.

. . .IMO, I think Fulmer does a very good job! He is well respected and you will never get a coach with more "orange blood" in him! Yes, I know, the Vols lose some games they should win and there are certainly some behavioral problems which don't sit well with me. But what other program these days doesn't have these problems. (I went to Penn State and they're a mess right now!!) The fact is the if the Vols beat LSU last year. . .we would not be asking these kinds of questions about Fulmer!! There is so much parity out there now in College football. . .on any given Saturday almost everyone in the SEC can beat you, including Vandy and Kentucky. I'm excited about this new coaching staff and there is nothing wrong with Fulmer's Vols that a SEC championship and BCS bowl victory won't cure. Another National Championship would be a bonus.

To Maryland Vol!, i respect everyones opinions i do, but being a good ole boy that bleeds orange doesnt cut it.. Tickets have gone up 10-15 dollars in last 3 or 4 years, and last time i checked its been since 1998 since this team has done anything to deserves ticket increases. I like Phil as a face of the team, but not when it comes to results. That and lets be real team thugs seem to increase year after year. Im as big a Vol fan as the next, but havent we all been on the verge of being on that upper level that the OSU's USC, LSU's and OU's of the world seem to enjoy every year?

I would have to agree. I wonder about this "mediocre" expectation of winning. Last year should have been a slap in the face to all who involve themselves in Big Orange Football. I would much rather have a team that punches its way into the SEC Championship game rather than limp in with an overtime win in KY of all places and then not pulling Ainge after the horrible brain fart of an interception in Atlanta. I am not a SEC coach, rather a fan who has been sick and tired of resting on a miraculous season and a Championship back in 98'.
I guess we're in for another 9-3, 8-4 season again. I pray every day differently, but you gotta know Fulmer isn't. It's time we get a coach that prays for wins not just to keep his job. ( God knows its the best job right behind being a playboy photographer) haha.......get it together Phil, get the job done so we all shut up...

I said it last year, im saying it this year... Its obvious the problem. Yes Crompton is bad, but should we have not known that before now? I have an idea... coach your kids up with you play patsy teams like Air force, or Wyoming, beat them, play backups find out what they are made of and give them valuable experience.. not just let them go in and hand it off(althought its clear Crompton needs help with that too) Enough is enough...Thank you Phil, but swallow your pride and go. Pay the man the 5.5 Million... forget the Gruden rumors, those are BS, go get the right guy... and for God Sakes get away from the Vol family. Its time for a drastic change in Knoxville. Go dangle the carrot in front of Butch Davis at UNC, he can recruit, and if you can keep him clean he can win BIG in Knoxville. They have promised him the world in Chapel Hill, so what, We have the world. Its time people wake up.. We are charged $50 dollars to go see this crap... and the occational 9-3 isnt acceptable... and this years 4-7 or 5-6 should NEVER happen. No recruiting, and you can Kiss Eric Berry good bye. It has to get worse b4 it gets better... so lets get the worse over with now! Go Vols!

Get used to the fact that Fulmer WILL be with us for a long time to come.He is a member of the "good ole' boy club",he's good buddies with Mike Hamilton,he's a U.T. alum,he's won a national championship,he's won several S.E.C. championships,he's in tight with many of the more influential boosters....and on and on!
It's pretty apparent by his new contract extension that 7 or 8 wins a year is enough ,in the minds of the powers that be,to keep him around. So,get used to the Great Pumpkin,he's gonna be here for quite a while!

I really believe it's the coaching upstairs. You take a Division II phenom and let him make all the calls? I think not. We look like we did when Randy Sanders sat in his seat. The only SPREAD I see on the field is the one Tennessee can't cover week to week in vegas........I wanna get back to the football Coach Fulmer played when he was a player. C'mon, even Johnny Majors would have pulled Crompton after the first game and given his "TEAM" a fighting chance. We need to get back to the basics of football before we try to get fancy. You run the ball, you run the ball, you pass the ball when you can't run the ball, and then you smash the other team around when you get on defense. Grades_______Defense B plus_______Special Teams C_______Offense D minus__________Coaching D________get off your laurels and coach some basic football....The old school philosophy works, just look at Alabama, Oklahoma, hell even LSU runs a basic football scheme...Thats my thoughts, Call Bill Cowher, he just moved in over the hill in NC.....

Well opinions are the right of everyone.. Old school doesnt win like we deserve to win... u say Oklahoma... they are as close to what we use to be as it gets, which isnt that close to anything we have ever been. Yes, they line it up shove it down your throat, but when its gets to be 3rd &9 they dont throw a pass 20yards to the left 4 yards up field. They thow it over the middle of the field and spead defenses out, which is why they run it so well. They do not let teams cheat. LSU, they are as far from "old school" as it gets when they have a talented QB, not sure who you have been watching but Les Miles is crazy and unpredictable. Name the last "old school" style to Win a BCS title? Old school got killed two years in a row.. OSU... big slow lines, run run run. They got killed. Three Offensive coaches since 98, different styles, SAME OLD CRAP. For people like you there is no reason... i want Fulmer to be the guy, but one win against top 10 teams since 2001, and 14-14 in last 28 SEC games says it all. Yes the SEC is tough, but We are Tennessee, not Ole Miss, not UK, and not Vandy. Thats rediculas!

Everyone keeps throwing out names for potential coaches to replace Fulmer... i just do not understand why people keep throwing out rediculas names such as Bill Cowher, John Gruden and Steve Spurrier... those are fantasies, the first two, certainly amazing coaches, but have no idea what it takes to recruit. We need to put our focus on guy that have both experience, and are proven to be successful. Hamilton needs to start looking to boosters to help throw whatever it takes to lure Butch Davis away from North Carolina.. My god how do you recruit there.. in his second year he had a top 3 class some say number 1. Hes turned that program around in just 2 years. Or Lane Kiffin... sure he didnt succeed in Oakland, but as long as the "Castro" of football is there no one can. He had a hell of an offense at USC and is young, and has college recruiting experience. Normally i dont agree with parting ways mid season, but in our case its best so we can put ourselves out front with the best coaches and recruits. Whatever happens, better accept next year is going to the same if not worse, it has to get worse before it gets better

Well, I think coach Fulmer has just lost his fire he had in the 90's. Dont get me wrong, im a vols fan through and through. Fulmer is an amazing coach. If you remember back when Majors was coaching, the same thing happened to him. He lost his fire. Recruting hasnt been all that positive in the past also.
